Arowhenua Māori School embraces Ashmita and Sumeet as part of the school whānau

Arowhenua Māori School Tumuaki Bronwyn Te Koeti meets with South Canterbury franchise owners Ashmita Singh and Sumeet Kishore during a recent term clean.

Ashmita Singh and Sumeet Kishore have been cleaning Arowhenua Māori School since February, and in that short time they’ve become much more than just the school cleaning team.

Ashmita and Sumeet keep their van well organised, making sure everything is easy to access and all chemicals are stored safely.

Friendly, hardworking and always willing to help, Ashmita and Sumeet have built strong relationships with staff and become a valued part of the school community.

As the end of term comes around, CrestClean Regional Managers and Quality Assurance teams are out and about completing term clean sign-offs, making sure schools are fresh, clean and ready for the new term. During a recent visit to Arowhenua Māori School, Regional Manager Rob Glenie was especially impressed with how well organised Ashmita and Sumeet’s van was.

“A tidy, well organised van means a tidy well organised business, and that is what Ashmita and Sumeet are delivering for their customers,” says Rob.

Arowhenua Māori School Tumuaki Bronwyn Te Koeti says the pair have been a real blessing to the school. They’re always positive, flexible and easy to work with, happily fitting in around whatever is happening at the school each day.

They’ve also been known to brighten staff members’ days with small treats like chocolates and coffee sachets, just as a simple way of saying hello and thank you. It’s those little thoughtful touches that have left a lasting impression.

“They’re very generous,” says Bronwyn.

Going above and beyond seems to come naturally to Ashmita and Sumeet. If they notice something that needs doing, they just quietly get on with it. When Ashmita noticed leaves building up around the school, he grabbed his leaf blower and tidied the area without anyone asking him to. And when the school unexpectedly ran out of rubbish bags, Ashmita offered a roll from his van to see the school through until their next order arrived.

“We’re very happy with them,” says Bronwyn. “They’re lovely.”

They’re also great communicators, keeping everything clear and up to date in the communications book so nothing gets missed, often leaving it open on the right page for staff to see easily.

Over time, the pair have become part of the wider school whānau. They’ve taken the time to get to know everyone, share a bit about themselves, and build genuine friendships along the way. Bronwyn says it’s reassuring knowing that if the school ever needs a helping hand, Ashmita and Sumeet are always happy to step in.

“We love having them here.”
