Wellesley School avoids fire thanks to Krish’s quick actions
For the past eight years, Wellington franchise owner Krishneel ‘Krish’ Sen has been a familiar and trusted face at Wellesley School. When he bought his CrestClean franchise in 2017, the school was his very first customer, and he has been looking after it ever since. Known for going the extra mile, Krish makes sure the school is always safe and secure after he leaves.
One night recently, Krish ended up being the hero of the day.
While upstairs cleaning the art room, Krish noticed a burning smell. At first, he thought it might just be his vacuum, so he stopped to check. But when he realised the smell was getting stronger, he trusted his instincts and went to look at the ventilation units. Sure enough, one in the music room storeroom had developed an electrical fault and was starting to smoke.
By the time Krish found the source, the fire alarm went off. Wasting no time, he grabbed his phone.
“I dropped all my equipment and went straight to the assembly point,” he says.
Krish immediately called the fire service, then phoned the school caretaker to update him. He also rang his Regional Managers, Adrian and Kylie Cashmore. Even though it was 11pm, they were quick to answer.
“I said, stop whatever you’re dreaming about,” he laughs.
“They are both very kind people, and they didn’t mind being woken up.”
When the fire service arrived, they were grateful Krish had been on site as he was able to take them straight to the source of the smoke.
It turned out to be a long night for Krish. With another school still to clean, he didn’t finish work until the early hours of the morning. When he finally got home, he filed an incident report before finally trying to wind down after the eventful night.
Wellesley School was very appreciative of Krish’s quick thinking and thanked him with a gift voucher. Had he not been there, the outcome could have been very different.
“The school Business Manager was over the moon because it’s a very old heritage building and all the arts and crafts can’t be replaced,” says Krish.
Krish is just glad he was there to help.
