Owhiro Bay School sparkles with Cleanest Classroom programme
Owhiro Bay School recently wrapped up another term of participating in the Cleanest Classroom programme. The initiative is all about encouraging students to keep their classrooms clean during the school term and take pride in their learning space.
CrestClean franchise owners, Alex and Joy Nagrampa, introduced the Cleanest Classroom programme at Owhiro Bay School last year and it’s been a successful way to promote a healthy school environment.
“We like the idea of the awards because it’s not just about making the job easier for us, it’s about instilling values in the children,” says Joy.
“It also makes them more aware of who is cleaning their classroom.”
With so many enthusiastic participants, Alex and Joy Nagrampa have expanded the competition to include both a first-place prize and a runner-up prize. The winning class gets to celebrate with a delicious pizza lunch, while the runner-up class enjoys a refreshing treat of ice blocks. Term two’s winning class was Māhuri 2 and runner-up was Māhuri 1.
“It’s about having respect for others and respect for the environment,” says Joy.
“Instilling that value is important for when they grow up and become part of the workforce.”
Alex and Joy ensure everyone feels valued for their contribution to a clean and healthy learning environment, including the teachers! They give the teachers of the winning classrooms a gift, whether it’s chocolates, a new plant, or a bottle of wine.
The couple have built strong relationships with both staff and students, becoming valued members of the school community. Owhiro Bay Principal, Cilla Scott, considers them part of the team. Building relationships with customers is the most important thing for Alex and Joy.
“Once you have a good relationship, it’s easy to work together,” says Joy.
“We don’t feel like we’re just there to clean in the evenings. The principal tells us we’re part of the team.”
One afternoon, the students were still at school for an event. They approached Alex and Joy to let them know what a great job they do.
“The kids are just lovely. They appreciate the work we do and that means more to us than the money coming in,” says Joy.
Having experienced unreliable cleaners in the past, staff at Owhiro Bay School value Alex and Joy’s reliability. Every day, Alex and Joy go the extra mile to deliver exceptional service. Their commitment to quality ensures the cleaning aspect of running the school is seamless, allowing staff to focus on what matters most – their students.
“Aside from the CrestClean standard, Alex and I have our own standards. We put great value on customer satisfaction,” says Joy.
“When you have good cleaners, that’s one less thing to worry about.”
Term two’s award ceremony was a school-wide assembly focused on the Cleanest Classroom Awards. The school principal facilitated a Q and A with Alex and Joy where the students could ask questions and get to know them. Wellington Regional Master Franchisee, Adrian Cashmore, came along to the assembly and saw how respected the franchise owners were at Owhiro Bay School.
“I was delighted to be at Owhiro Bay School,” Adrian said. “The kids were awesome and really engaging. All of them knew Alex and Joy,” says Adrian.
“They’re clearly doing a great job at the school, and the principal couldn’t speak more highly of them.”
Adrian is enthusiastic about the programme and encourages more CrestClean franchise owners to implement the initiative.
