CrestClean exceeds Ministry of Education standards for preschool cleans

CrestClean products and procedures prioritise the safety of staff and students in all school and ECE environments.

The Ministry of Education (MoE) has outlined strict expectations regarding acceptable cleaning chemicals in Early Childhood Education (ECE) centres.

While Public Health recommends bleach-based disinfectants to combat pathogens in ECE environments, the MoE recognises the drawbacks of using bleach. It doesn’t effectively kill certain germs like giardia and cryptosporidium and can produce strong fumes that irritate the eyes, lungs, and skin.

Cleaning with bleach may do more harm than good, especially in ECE settings.

CrestClean surpasses the MoE’s cleaning standards in both schools and ECEs. We prioritise the safety of children and staff in all ECE environments. Our commitment is exemplified by the development of HyperClean®, an exclusive CrestClean product that’s safer and more effective than traditional disinfectants. In ECE environments where cleanliness and safety are paramount, HyperClean® offers an ideal solution.

HyperClean® is a powerful hydrogen peroxide formula that removes biofilm without leaving harmful residues, such as chlorine gas. Licenced by Environmental Choice NZ (ECNZ), HyperClean® is safe for both people and the environment.

The MoE allows alternative disinfectants if cleaning providers can show scientific evidence from the manufacturer that they are effective against:

  • Protozoa, such as giardia and cryptosporidium
  • Bacteria, such as salmonella and campylobacter
  • Viruses, such as rotavirus, norovirus/norwalk-like viruses

HyperClean®’s hydrogen peroxide base is highly effective at killing protozoans, bacteria and viruses due to it oxidising properties. The oxidation process damages the microorganism’s cell membrane causing cellular contents to leak and the microorganism to die off. This process also helps to lift stubborn stains and debris from surfaces.

CrestClean’s exclusive cleaning products are professionally licenced, including the Anti-Viral Sanitiser, which is also registered by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as a sanitiser against COVID-19.

General Manager of Training, Liezl Foxcroft, trains CrestClean cleaning teams, emphasising that best practice is achieved through a combination of quality cleaning products and stringent procedures.

HyperClean is a greener and safer alternative to bleach-based cleaning products.

“Cleaning is a science, made up of various different parts and if one part does not work, the whole system falls over,” says Liezl.

Through regular site audits, we ensure ECE environments are cleaned at a consistently high standard.

“Quality audits are conducted on sites to ensure everyone is cleaning to the same standard and we undertake safety observations on all cleaning staff at least once a year,” says Liezl.

Pioneering a range of safe cleaning solutions was a ground-breaking move for CrestClean that highlights our commitment to customer safety and sustainable practices.

“We keep people foremost in our processes and make sure that everyone is safe – this includes not only our cleaners, but our clients, customers and users of the facilities we clean,” says Liezl.
