Cleanest Classroom competition a win-win for school
The Cleanest Classroom competition is proving extremely popular at Ashburton Intermediate School.
As a reward for ensuring their workspace is the cleanest, students were treated to pizza delivered by their cleaner, CrestClean business owner Joy Pombo.
Principal Brent Gray says the competition, that’s also run by CrestClean at hundreds of other schools around the country, encourages students to tidy up and take care of the environment around them.
“It’s really well received here. Through our values programme we run a ‘kapi’ reward system, so it fits in quite well with that because we are into rewarding kids who are seen to be doing the right things in the right place at the right time.”
Brent says he’s been impressed with the standard of cleaning provided by Joy and her employee, Lilibeth Agustin.
“It’s great. The team we have currently have been outstanding. We really value them.”
Joy had nothing but praise for the winning students of Room 1 who go out of their way to tidy up at the end of each school day.
“The floor is always very tidy and there is not a single piece of paper left on the floor. It means when we start work we can quickly begin vacuuming,” she says.
“It really helps us to work more efficiently and maximise our time on the cleaning instead of having to tidy up.”
Joy say it’s a pleasure to reward the winning classroom with a pizza treat. “The kids are always very excited to get the pizza, even if they just get one slice each.”
Robert Glenie, CrestClean’s South Canterbury Regional Manager, says Joy works hard to deliver a high level of service to her customers.
“She really goes the extra mile. She is always smiling and nothing is ever a problem.”
