Couple take floor care in their stride with new buffer
Cleaning grubby floors from heavy foot traffic goes with the territory when you’re a school cleaner.
But the extra effort put in by CrestClean couple Joy and Nilo Pombo to bring back a shine to the corridors at Ashburton Intermediate School has not gone unnoticed.
Their hard work had been commented on by the school’s principal, says Robert Glenie, CrestClean Mid Canterbury Regional Manager.
“The pride Joy and Nilo take when cleaning their school is amazing and is definitely noticed by the principal Brent Grey.
“The school has always had issues with black shoe marks on the vinyl corridor floors, so Nilo and Joy undertook training in hard floor care and then they purchased a buffing machine.
“The results have been just amazing. Now you cannot find a black mark on any corridor floor at the school,” says Robert.
The couple are originally from the Philippines and are enjoying their new life in Ashburton. Owning a CrestClean business has given them a job that fits in well with family life, says Joy.
Nilo is a farm manager and takes on childcare duties when he gets home, allowing Joy to go out cleaning for her customers. The couple also have an employee who works alongside Joy each evening.
“I wanted to have a job that I can manage my own time,” says Joy, who used to work in a factory. I chose the cleaning business because it has flexible hours and it works out well for us.
“My husband can look after my children at night when I’m out working. It’s a good business and I actually like cleaning itself. We’re very happy that our customers appreciate what we do.”
