Upskilling in Hard Floor Care brings extra opportunities

These CrestClean newbies polished off all their specialist tasks with ease – their efforts paving the way to generating more income.
For being qualified as a Hard Floor Care specialist broadens the type of work they can now take on. The Hamilton franchisees attended a two-day course, which was run by the Master Cleaners Training Institute.
Nivitesh Kumar, CrestClean’s Waikato Regional Manager, was delighted at how the upskilling event had gone.
“They were really enthusiastic and enjoyed learning the tasks,” he said.
“They were really excited to see the finished result. They were amazed to see how shiny the floors were after all their hard work.”
A major part of the course is centred on health and safety, added Nivitesh.
“Handling a rotary machine takes a practice. In the hands of an untrained person it could be potentially dangerous.
He said identifying potential risks was also important. “When cleaning floors they are dealing with electricity and water, so it was very important they learned the correct procedures and the potential hazards they are dealing with.
“It’s great they have completed and passed the course and know how to keep themselves safe while working on floors.
“Secondly they can now produce better results for their customers. And they can earn an extra income stream for their business by doing floor work as they are now fully qualified in that area.”
Adam Hodge, CEO of the Master Cleaners Training Institute, said the Hard Floor Care course was well structured and popular among franchisees. It has an initial one day followed by two days of intense practical work.
“The first day includes sections on health and safety, gaining competency, safe use and care of the machinery, and scrubbing and buffing floors.
“They are also shown how to safely operate the machines and how to maintain them.”
Day two and three cover additional techniques, including stripping, polishing, and sealing floor surfaces, said Adam.
“It’s an essential course for every one of our franchisees who works in schools and kindies.”
