Familiar faces and clean spaces – CrestClean’s 15-year relationship with Birdwood School

Auckland West Regional Master Franchisee Caro Wedding and franchise owners Nuku and Telo Asafo deliver new School Respect posters to Birdwood School.

CrestClean’s relationship with Birdwood School has stood the test of time, growing stronger with each passing year. Now, 15 years on, Birdwood School is one of Auckland West’s longest-standing customers, making CrestClean a trusted and familiar presence in the school community.

Auckland West Regional Master Franchisee Caro Wedding is proud of her region’s lasting connection with Birdwood School. Despite significant school growth and changes to staff over the 15 years, the relationship continues to grow.

“We have such a long history with Birdwood School and I’m proud to say it’s still going strong,” says Caro.
CrestClean franchise owners Nuku and Telo Asafo have recently joined Birdwood School as the new cleaning team. To ensure a smooth transition, Caro hosted a morning tea at the school to introduce them to the staff.

But the couple didn’t need much of an introduction – they were already well-known to all at Birdwood School. With many whānau connections, Nuku and Telo are the ideal team to continue CrestClean’s relationship with the school community.

“The school love them, and they love the school,” says Caro.

Deputy Principal Kevin Miekle says it’s CrestClean’s commitment to excellence that has led to such a long partnership.

“CrestClean have always done a great job, that’s why our relationship has lasted such a long time,” he says.

“Our relationship is built on mutual respect. If there are any issues, we can fall back on the relationship to have it sorted in a quick and respectful manner.”

At the morning tea, Nuku and Telo brought a fresh set of CrestClean’s School Respect posters which were quickly put up around the school, reminding students of the importance of hygiene and tidiness. The colourful posters have been endorsed by the Te Akatea New Zealand Māori Principals’ Association and encourage students to respect the school environment.

Caro also introduced RecycleKiwi, which ties in perfectly with the school’s commitment to environmental responsibility. As an Enviroschool, Birdwood School is part of a nationwide movement promoting positive environmental change. The school boasts dedicated recycling and worm farm facilities, and they are currently working with a local environmental group to restore a nearby river. This project involves Year 7 and 8 students, who help clear debris and assist with planting following flood damage two years ago.

Kevin says encouraging environmental awareness is a key aspect of life at Birdwood School. This mindset extends into the classroom, where students participate in CrestClean’s Cleanest Classroom programme. Having run the programme since 2012, students understand the importance of keeping their learning spaces tidy and showing respect for the cleaning teams who reset the classrooms each evening.

“We have a responsibility to teach our students that they’re part of the team,” says Kevin.

After 15 years, Kevin says CrestClean has long been integral to the day-to-day operations at Birdwood School. He’s pleased to have Nuku and Telo onboard.

“They’re another part of the cog that makes the wheels go around here.”
