Early-risers Dan and Aijita Sharma are up with the lark to make sure Wellington’s Government House stays spotlessly clean.
CrestClean Franchisees get to carry out cleaning duties in some varied and interesting places and the husband and wife team love working at the historic home where their day begins at 5am.
The couple got the perfect occasion to swap their CrestClean uniform for their glad rags when they were invited to a “thank you” event in recognition of their work at Government House.
The special reception was laid on to recognise companies, tradespeople, medical personnel, and public servants who provide services to Governor-General Sir Jerry and Lady Janine Mateparae.
Dan and Aijita, who carry out general cleaning and work five times a week at the landmark building, were thrilled to be on the guest list.
“It was a great honour for CrestClean,” said Dan, who is also a Master Cleaners Regional Trainer.
Philip Wilson, CrestClean’s Wellington Regional Quality Assurance Co-ordinator, said having the contract to clean Government House was prestigious for the company.
“It’s such a historic place and Dan and Aijita feel they are privileged to be working there.”
At a speech to invited guests Sir Jerry praised those who worked behind the scenes at Government House.
“We have a huge range of people here tonight. Suppliers of produce and wine, florists, cleaners, gardeners, photographers, plumbers, alarm installers and pest controllers are just some of the people whose services Government House needs in order to work well.”
He added: “I want to tell you how grateful we are that we can call on the professional services of people who are responsive, accommodating, flexible – who understand and appreciate the idiosyncrasies of a heritage building and approach the challenges here in a timely manner – and who have a can-do attitude.”
