Do businesses need a dedicated Health and Safety person?
I don’t believe a lot of organisations need a permanent Health and Safety resource sitting in their business. We don’t have Accountants sitting in every business. We don’t have Lawyers sitting in every business. Seek subject matter expertise, get advice when you need it, pay for it when you get it; it’s a lot cheaper.

Yes, I’m a consultant; I’m on that train. If you’re an electrician, and you go to your Accountant once a year, it probably wouldn’t hurt to have an appointment with the Health and Safety guy once a year.
If you’re setting up a business, you’ll normally get legal advice, you’ll normally get accounting advice, then get your safety advice; get your system in place.
