Hard Floor Care a Must-Have Skill for New Franchisees
In Tauranga, all the franchisees new to CrestClean in the past four months are now also fully trained in Hard Floor Care.
“I tell all my franchisees they need this skill if they’re going to be doing any sort of floor care,” says Jan Lichtwark, Regional Manager for Tauranga. “Some say that none of their jobs are going to need buffing, but it pays to know.”
Six franchisees – Woo Sung Lee, Yeon Kil Yang, Anuragni Chandra, Sanjeet Chandra, Edward Santosa, and Richard Kemm – attended the two-day training course, which was held at Te Puke High School and taught by Pinakin Patel, a Tauranga franchisee and Hard Floor Trainer.
Jan says Hard Floor Care is “a big part of the business” for his region, so having several new franchisees who are skilled at doing it benefits them all.
The two-day course is run by Master Cleaners Training Institute, which is accredited by the British Institute of Cleaning Science, as well as an NZQA accredited Industry Training Organisation.
The course includes practical training in buffing, scrubbing, burnishing, stain removal, stripping and polishing, as well as ways to identify different floor surfaces and treat them correctly. How to operate and care for buffing machines and the different pads and products available is also a significant part of the training, and franchisees who successfully demonstrate a full understanding of all the procedures receive Certificates of Completion.
“It’s a skill and a service that can make a noticeable difference, especially in a new contract,” says Chris Chapman, CrestClean’s National Quality and Training Manager. “Our new customers expect to see a noticeable change in a short period of time and doing a good job on floors gives ‘Wow’ feedback. It’s what makes us look professional.”
