Clean Workplaces Keep Workers Happy
New Zealand employers are losing the battle to keep staff, even as they offer generous pay increases of up to 6%, a remuneration survey says.
The survey, by employment consultancy Hockem shows organisations have increased fixed packages by a median of 5.2 per cent to hold onto their existing workforce. Hockem found that those who moved jobs were not necessarily being attracted by money alone. Hockem principal Travis Hockem commented: “Office hygiene is increasingly a concern of employees. A dirty workplace ranks right up there with other factors like boredom as a reason why employees will leave a job.”
The survey found that employees were increasingly aware of the cleanliness of their workplaces for health and hygiene reasons, and staff were simply not prepared to put up with poor hygiene at work if there were other opportunities available to them.
